Bar Harbor’s Gilded Age Library

Panoramic Main Level.gif

Founded in 1911 by the visionary behind Acadia National Park, designed by the architect who renovated the White House, named for the former president of the American Museum of Natural History in New York, and one of few historic public buildings that survived the Fire of 1947, the Jesup is a rare living testament to both Bar Harbor’s Gilded Age and the vibrant character of its community today.

Some of our favorite Trip Advisor reviews can attest that the Jesup is “like walking into a movie set,” “more than 100 years old and looking pretty kick-butt beautiful,” and “a lovely old library, something that most people don't have the opportunity to see in our modern world.” Every summer we see new jaws drop as they step into the grand Reading Room.

We’re on the National Register of Historic Places, and we’re Bar Harbor’s living room. We’re an anchor to the past, and a chart to the future. Visit us and find out why!
