Maria DeWitt Jesup Society — Jesup Memorial Library

The story of the Jesup’s founding and Mrs. Maria DeWitt Jesup’s philanthropy is one of vision and generosity. The Maria DeWitt Jesup Society honors those patrons whose generosity and love for their library allows the Jesup to carry on to this day as Bar Harbor’s community and cultural hub.

Donors who contribute at least $1,000 per year to the library are enrolled in the society, with our deep gratitude. In 2022, this group of supporters gave nearly 70% of all Annual Campaign donations.

The George B. Dorr Giving Level ($25,000 and beyond), honors the father of Acadia National Park and devoted supporter of the library, who helped make the Jesup Memorial Library possible.
The Mary Roberts Rinehart Giving Level ($10,000 - $24,999), honors the pioneering war correspondent, registered nurse, infamous mystery writer, and devoted Jesup Memorial Library board member.
The L.B. Deasy Giving Level ($5,000 - $9,999), honors the library’s first president and his firm belief that “the gift of a library is the best and most perfect public gift”.
The Endora Salisbury Giving Level ($2,500 - $4,999), honors the village’s first librarian, who opened her porch to summer and permanent residents with the first collection of 167 books.
The Maria Huntington Giving Level ($1,000 - $2,499), honors the woman who gave the Bar Harbor Village Library its first cash donation.
