A Note on Reopening
Dear Jesup Family and Friends,
Here we are, closed to the public, for the third time in four years. This is so completely contrary to every impulse in my body and professional orientation that I can hardly believe even now that it is true. We have tried to find ways to be of service to you during this time even if they are new experiences for both of us: please check out The Jesup @ Home.
To determine when we reopen and how our services will actually be offered at that time we are following the guidance of Governor Mills and the Maine State Library. We are also working with the other libraries in our area. We still need more information, especially around how we should handle library materials, to figure out what we can do safely. I am sure you understand that it will not just be a matter of opening the door and we are back to regular business. Our services will look different at the beginning, and we hope you will bear with us as we take a step-by-step approach to work within this “new normal.”
We are hopeful we can begin in early June and will share our plans with you as soon as decisions are made. If you have questions or thoughts please get in touch with me either at reveland@jesuplibray.org or at 610-2355.
All of us miss you so much and we can hardly wait until we can see you again, even if we are all wearing masks. One of my favorite children’s books is “Bear Party” by William Pene du Bois. After a time of strife they develop new relationships with each other while wearing masks. At the end they are able to throw away their masks and dance on together. I am looking forward to the day we can do the same.
Thanks,
Ruth A. Eveland
