Know Your Rights - Community Information Session on Immigration Policy and Local Businesses

  • Jesup Memorial Library 34 Mt. Desert Street Bar Harbor, Maine 04609 (map)

The MDI Red Cards are a community group on MDI offering support to local businesses that rely on international workers. We hope to provide local businesses with information concerning employer and employee rights, and to discuss ways our international workers can be protected in light of current changes to immigration policy.

ICE / U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement as well as CBP / U.S. Customs and Border Protection have a presence in our communities as international travelers arrive to enjoy everything our beautiful island has to offer during the summer season.

Knowing your Employer Rights will help you protect your employees. Businesses are private and have the right to deny any information or entry to an ICE agent unless they are handed a Judicial Warrant—a warrant signed by a judge. Businesses may advise H2B and J1 workers to carry copies of proof of lawful status at all times, including printed copies of passport, visa and I-94.
