Join in a timely discussion around anxiety and depression during Mental Health Awareness. Using Schriever's book as frame work, she will talk about how her story came to be and with DuBois will talk about resources available for parents and how they can help their children. In "Talos and the Yellow Suitcase," ten year-old Talos lives in a black and white world but when his world is suddenly full of color, joy, and feelings, he starts to have questions. Schriever, who worked as an educator, says that hearing stories from her students (and her own son), their perspectives on difficult topics such as depression and anxiety formed the basis of the book. She will be joined by DuBois who is the Mount Desert Island school district's social worker.
Copies of Schriever’s book will be available for purchase courtesy of co-sponsor Sherman’s Books at the event as well as at their Bar Harbor location.
