"Make your Best Shot" - Taking your best photos of lighthouses, Acadia and more

  • Jesup Memorial Library 34 Mt. Desert Street Bar Harbor, Maine 04609 (map)

Professional photographer Michael Leonard will share his years of experience in providing useful techniques for helping you to make your best vacation shots. Michael has been promoting Photo Tourism in Maine for years, teaches workshops, and leads photography field trips. This photography program is being held in conjunction with a 20-lighthouse photography tour sailing from Bar Harbor on Sunday, September 24th, in which Michael will be an expert guide.

The “Make your Best Shot” program begins with a stunning slide show of some of his finest recent images. Michael will then cover the basics that you should have read in your camera manual in a way that you will easily understand concepts like exposure, white balance, depth of field, and the importance of capturing images in Raw. This session will take place from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. with time after questions for those who would like to stay.

Michael has been praised for making the complex understandable and this presentation aims to have the audience leave with ideas they can directly apply to instantly start making better pictures.  Many more people are taking pictures using their cell phone cameras and Michael will provide some free apps and easy settings that can assist everyone in taking and making better pictures on their cell phones. Michael has been taking pictures for more than 45 years and among his favorite subjects to shoot at night are the Milky Way, lightning, and Aurora; in the daytime, he likes shooting landscapes, seascapes, birds, lighthouses, and schooners. His work has been featured in many publications including books, magazines, annual reports, brochures, textbooks, and nationally on the Weather Channel
