Join in a discussion about homelessness in Bar Harbor and on Mount Desert Island with the Jesup Memorial Library, the Bar Harbor Police Department and the YWCA MDI at the Jesup Memorial Library on Friday, May 24 at 3 p.m. This program is in conjunction with the screening of the film “The Public” at Reel Pizza.
Reel Pizza is playing the movie “The Public” from Tuesday, May 21 through Thursday, May 23 at 5:30 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. The film tells the story of a group of homeless people in Cincinnati who stage a sit in at the library to seek shelter from a bitter cold snap and focuses on issues including homelessness and mental illness in a library setting.
After seeing the movie, join in a conversation about homelessness in our own community, and learn more about some of the organizations in the area working to help the homeless. There also will be toiletry collections at the Jesup, Reel Pizza and YWCA for Emmaus House during the same time. Feel free to drop off travel or small-size toiletries at any of these locations until May 24.
