Slammin’ at the Jesup

As part of November’s NaNoWriMo events at Jesup Memorial Library, we’ll be hosting two live events for poets and storytellers.

The Words Unleashed Poetry Slam will be held on Friday, November 14, from 7 to 9 p.m. Poets are encouraged to come by for an open mic night and share their work in a fun and friendly atmosphere! Additional Poetry Slams are planned for February and April if there is enough interest in November, so come to read or to enjoy the poetry of others.

The Words Unleashed Story Slam will be held on Friday, November 21, from 7 to 9 p.m. Those familiar with “The Moth” broadcast on NPR will recognize the format. These are true stories told live.  The theme for this month’s Story Slam is “Firsts” – as in, first love, first child, first car, first pet, first outdoor adventure, first time away from home, first concert, first time, first whatever! Your story must be TRUE and must be YOUR story – not your sister’s or your best friend’s. Stories must be no more than five minutes long. This is an evening many folks have been asking for, and this is the perfect month to offer it. Plans are to hold additional Story Slams in January and March if there is enough interest in November, so come by and participate – either as a storyteller or audience member.

The Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce is co-sponsoring all NaNoWriMo events at the Jesup this year, including the Words Unleashed Poetry Slam and Words Unleashed Story Slam.
