Pages and Repasts 2017

Enjoy a meal and a spirited literary discussion, all while supporting the Jesup Memorial Library. All of the meals are hosted by community members or businesses, and include a book-themed meal and discussion. Tickets for all meals can be purchased exclusively through the Jesup on a first come, first reserved basis, in person, by phone or here on our website. We regret we cannot hold seats without payment.

Pages & Repasts is an important annual fundraiser, and all proceeds go directly to the library. Though it serves – as it has for 106 years – as the public library, Jesup Memorial Library is a private nonprofit which receives less than 5% of its annual income from the Town of Bar Harbor. Half comes from endowments and grants. The rest we raise through events like Pages & Repasts.  Thank you for supporting the Jesup.

“Addiction on Trial” Dinner at the Home of Donna Reis
Join Dr. Steven Kassels, author of “Addiction on Trial: Tragedy in Downeast Maine” for an intimate dinner and author talk.“Addiction on Trial” is a medical murder mystery and legal thriller that centers on the murder of Downeast resident, Annette Fiorno. “Addiction on Trial” sends a powerful message through the outcome of a trio of characters with opiate and cocaine addictions. The messages of societal discrimination toward drug addicts and misunderstanding of what drug addiction really is – a chronic illness requiring a similar treatment approach as other chronic diseases – is woven into the intrigue of this thriller. The reader is exposed to psycho-social and biological nuances through the characters’ actions and from gripping snippets of testimony at Jimmy’s trial. Dr. Kassels received his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit Michigan. He has been board certified in both emergency medicine and addiction medicine, and he is currently the medical director and a founding member of Community Substance Abuse Centers, which specializes in the treatment of opiate addicted patients throughout New England.
