Modern Farming with Shalom Orchard on Thurs., Nov. 8

Join Jim Baranski from Shalom Orchard to learn more about how he and his wife, Charlotte Young, created a modern farm at a talk at the Jesup Memorial Library on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. Shalom Orchard was certified organic in 2005 by the Maine Organic Farms and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) and is the only organic winery in Maine. Learn more about their winery and orchard as well as how they have grown their farm over the years.

Unlike most wineries, the wines created at Shalom Orchard are non-grape fruit wines. Their wines include apple, blueberry and cranberry varieties as well as raspberry, blackberry, kiwi, maple and wintergreen. They have over 1,000 apple trees in their orchard, and they also grow blueberries, raspberries, cherries and kiwis. In their greenhouses they grow vegetables and herbs. Their farm is also home to a flock of sheep as well as chickens for both eggs and meat. Everything on the farm is certified organic.
