Girls Who Code on Thursdays at 3:30 p.m.

Calling all middle and high school girls who love computers, coding, and science or just having fun while learning. The Jesup Memorial Library and Megan McOsker are relaunching the coding club at the Jesup. These weekly events on Thursdays at 3:30 p.m. feature fun projects that teach basic coding skills. The club is open to those in grades 6 through 12 and is inclusive to anyone who identifies as a girl in a way that is significant to them. Come and find out what coding is all about.

These after school programs are designed to teach students to use coding skills to address real-life programs and in turn increase the number of women in computer science. Currently at Mount Desert Island High School, there are about 17 boys for everyone one girl in a computer science class or robotics team. Students do not need a computer or any computer knowledge to participate. The club will be led by McOsker, who works as a computer science teacher, robotics coach and gifted and talented specialist at MDIHS.
