ONLINE–National Security, Climate Change and the Coronavirus Pandemic with Fred Benson

May 15 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Zoom Link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85422782108

Assessing the level of US national security is a complicated process under any set of circumstances. Attempting to do so with a pandemic wreaking havoc on every sector of American life serves only to magnify the challenge.

There are more than 30 factors used by our government to determine just how safe we are. In truth, however, most Americans believe that the sole determinant is the degree to which American military power dominates any one or a group of foreign nations. This military myopia completely disregards the insecurity created by many other factors such as global warming, which is not even mentioned the current security formula.

Benson will address the subject in two parts. First, he will describe the process and identify the component parts of determining our level of security. He will also highlight those factors, and the interactions among them, that are not getting the attention he believes they deserve.

Second, he will add the coronavirus pandemic to the equation and describe the dramatic effect it may have on the overall national security evaluation.
