Join three libraries on Mount Desert Island and the Maine Digital Inclusion Initiative for a series of free classes about computers and technology. These classes are great for anyone who wants to learn basic computer skills, how to use different software programs and social media as well as how to keep yourself safe online.
At the Northeast Harbor Library there will be an Internet Safety class on Wednesday, March 6 from 1 to 4 p.m. This class teaches tips and strategies to keeping you safe online and will answer your questions about how to protect yourself and your information on the internet.
At the Southwest Harbor Public Library there will be a four different classes beginning in March. First on Wednesday, March 6 from 9 a.m. to noon there will be an Internet Safety class. Then beginning on Wednesday, March 20 there will be a two-part “Introduction to Computers” class. The first part is on March 20 from 9 a.m. to noon and the second is on Wednesday, March 27 from 9 a.m. to noon. If you have never used a computer or want to improve your skills, this class is for you. There will be a two-part “Google Tools; Gmail, Drive, and Docs” beginning on Wednesday, April 10 from 9 a.m. to noon, with the second on Wednesday, April 17 from 9 a.m. to noon. During this class you will set up a Gmail account and learn how to create and share Google Docs and save information to Google Drive. Finally, there will be a three-part class about use of Microsoft Word beginning on Wednesday, April 24 from 9 a.m. to noon; the second part is on Wednesday, May 1 from 9 a.m. to noon and the final part is on Wednesday, May 8 from 9 a.m. to noon. Using Microsoft Word, learn how to format text, use paragraph dialog boxes, add indents, work with tables and columns and do more with your documents.
At the Jesup Memorial Library there will be three classes beginning in March with a two-part “Introduction to Computers” class beginning on Wednesday, March 13 from 2 to 5 p.m. and continuing on Wednesday, March 20 from 2 to 5 p.m. Then there will be a two-part “Introduction to Social Media” class beginning on Wednesday, April 3 from 2 to 5 p.m., and the second part is on Wednesday, April 10 from 2 to 5 p.m. This class is for anyone who has basic computer skills and wants to join or learn more about social media platforms including Facebook and Twitter. Finally, there will be an Internet Safety class on Wednesday, April 24 from 2 to 5 p.m.
All these classes are free and open to the public, but registration is required. A computer will be provided and there is no software needed. Classes are limited to six participants each and you can register by contacting the library where the class will be held.
