When New York Times bestselling author Tom Ryan adopted 15-year old Will from a New Jersey shelter, he believed he was giving the elderly, sickly dog a home to have peace in his last days. But, when he brings Will home, Ryan realizes that there is much more to this little dog. Join Ryan at the Jesup Memorial Library on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. as he talks about his new, “Will’s Red Coat: The Story of One Old Dog Who Chose to Live Again.”
Ryan is the author of “Following Atticus,” about his journey climbing New Hampshire’s 48 peeks with miniature schnauzer Atticus M. Finch. Ryan came across Will’s picture on his “Following Atticus” Facebook page and decided, mostly on a whim to adopt him. But, when Ryan witnesses first hand Will’s heartache and fear—after several biting and violent episodes—Ryan realizes he is in for a challenge. With endless patience and the kind of continued empathy Ryan nurtured in his relationship with Atticus, Will eventually begins to thrive.
Books will be on sale that night courtesy of co-sponsor Sherman’s Books. While we usually welcome our canine patrons, Ryan will bring his dog Samwise to this talk, and because of this, we ask that no other dogs be present.
