Join a community discussion about healthy minds and spirits with local practitioners at the Jesup Memorial Library on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 1:30 p.m. as part of Age By Design. Age By Design is a series of programs co-sponsored by the Jesup, the YWCA Mount Desert Island, the Mount Desert Island YMCA and Island Connections that focuses on all facets of life for people ages 50 and over on Mount Desert Island.
Join panelists including Jen Harry, Scott Planting and Laura Neal to discuss how to keep your mind engaged as you age, as well as different spirituality can help during the aging process. Harry, the owner of Infusion Mindfulness, teaches classes about mindfulness, stress reduction and meditation. Her classes offer tools to help you relax and slow down, to identify what is important and to take action in the direction you want to go. Planting is an ordained Presbyterian (PCUSA) minister who has worked in rural Maine communities for over 40 years. In 1975, he accepted a call to serve a three church parish in Franklin County. The parish was part of a cooperative parish made up of 12 churches and several social service programs called Mission at the Eastward. In 2010, Scott was called to serve the Maine Seacoast Mission located in Bar Harbor with land-based programs in Washington County, and island based outreach by the Sunbeam V. Neal is a teacher at the True Nature Zen Center Buddhist sangha which is part of the Five Mountain Zen Order in the tradition of Korean Zen Master Seung Sahn.
