Mae Corrion has lived in Bar Harbor for more than 20 years and has worked at the Jesup for three-fourths of those years. Prior to her Bar Harbor days, she was the director of a very small library in Birdsboro, Pennsylvania. Before that she was a high school English teacher for seven years in Michigan, her original home.
She says that working in the library is like being a teacher without all the red tape and correcting papers, while still affecting the lives of future generations. The library gives her contact with children of all ages, as well as teachers and parents. She selects all of the material for the children’s room and reads it all before it gets put on the shelves. She does story times; visits school classrooms, runs summer programs and works the desk, too.
